On Thursday, May 18, 2017, our New York-based Superior Controls employees will be participating in the CDPHP® Workforce Team Challenge for the 5th straight year! This 3.5-mile road race is a great annual event that hosts up to 10,000 runners and walkers through the streets of downtown Albany.
Slightly longer than your typical 5K road race, this event attracts employees and their CEOs from all over the Capital Region of New York. Besides the usual incentive to beat Rick Pierro, CEO of Superior Controls, there is also a team aspect. Participants are encouraged to form teams (male, female, or co-ed) of four members whose total time is summed and compared to others. So, the faster you are, the better the team does! In 2016, we had our fastest team time yet! Rick has even more incentive to be faster – there is also a CEO category up for grabs.
For 17 consecutive years Rick Pierro has challenged Superior Controls employees to compete in a charity 5K road race, enticing them with $300 each if they beat his time. In August our New Hampshire office will take on Rick in the Yankee Homecoming 5K in Newburyport, MA. Since the tradition began 17 years ago, Rick has paid out a King’s ransom in winnings but he keeps on running. Last year, for example, 18 engineers beat him in the race and immediately received their winnings at the post race celebration. He claims he’ll win this year, but that remains to be seen!
With Superior Controls opening its new office in Albany last fall, we are expecting our largest team participation yet. If you will be in the Albany area on May 18th, please consider coming out to support those running.
